There are 3 main components to our diets called macronutrients. These are of the 3 most important things for our bodies and are essential to our health and energy levels. There are 2 kinds, some call them “simple” and “complex”, and others call them “refined” and “unrefined “. This is because complex carbohydrates contain a certain level of fiber which helps the body by feeding the microorganisms like probiotics, and simple carbohydrates don’t contain fiber.
Complex carbohydrates, also known as unrefined carbs naturally contain fiber and do not come from any processed foods. Refined carbohydrates are usually found in processed foods. When carbs go through the processes necessary to make the foods in which they are found, they actually lose their fiber components and become simply unnecessary to our system. They are still turned into glucose within our bodies, but they are “empty”, meaning they do not actually serve your body in other ways like their opposite unrefined carbs.
In What Foods Are Good Carbs vs Bad Carbs Found?
Good carbs (unrefined carbohydrates) are found in many different kinds of foods that, as mentioned, are not processed and in their natural state. Many of these are usually in whole grains like oats and quinoa. Another great source of unrefined carbs is legumes such as beans and lentils, starchy foods like yams, sweet potatoes, and white potatoes with the skin on. But the greatest forms of complex carbs are whole fruits or fruit juices such as apples, grapefruits, bananas, and peaches. Actually, most fruits contain a high level of complex carbohydrates and are great for an energy boost during the day.
Bad carbs (refined carbohydrates) are found in any processed foods like sweets, white rice, and refined grains, and sugars. You’ll also find bad carbs in any foods that have added sugars, be it sweets, soft drinks, sauces, and pretty much any types of white bread and white flours. As mentioned before, the moment these ingredients go through the process of being refined, they lose their nutritional value of fiber content and simply become stored fat on your body and extra glucose in your blood which may be a risk for type 2 diabetes. How Can You Avoid Bad Carbs in Your Diet?
It is actually a very simple task – that is if you’re willing to give up sweets, added sugars, and any “white grains”. If you want to lose weight or simply keep healthy, this is probably a great way to do it. Since bad carbs are still converted into glucose and thus into extra fat (if not processed during the day), they really aren’t doing you much of a favor in any way whatsoever.
It is optimal to try to avoid these kinds of foods because in the long run, over-consumption of these kinds of foods that contain little to no essential nutritional value can actually lead to some major health risks and subsequent complications. Some of these include diabetes, obesity, digestive issues, and loss of probiotics, energy loss and even risk of heart attack.
Getting enough good carbs in your diet is as simple as eating one or 2 pieces of fruit a day, incorporating legumes and whole grains into your daily life, and staying away from the easy to buy snacks and processed foods. Fruit and vegetables are an important staple to a healthy diet.
So, if you truly want to stay as healthy as possible, simply try to consume as much natural plant fiber as possible, proteins, and healthy fats. This will lead to some major health changes and will cut down the risk of any of the above-mentioned risks by around half the chances. This will transform your body both inside and out, and you’ll feel good and look good always.
